Engel has represented clients in numerous civil rights and free speech cases over the past thirty years, including arguing Doe v. University of Cincinnati and representing members of the LGBTQ+ community.
Engel emphasized, “Abortion remains a highly divisive topic in our society. This is a highly personal matter with deep moral, religious and spiritual implications.” But he added that, the “Constitution protects the liberty of each woman to make this decision in consultation with family, clergy, and medical professional in accordance with her beliefs.”
Engel said:
This abandonment by the Court of its traditional role in protecting the liberty of the individual is heartbreaking. The Constitution is a living document that will certainly die if such radical departures from our traditions continue. But all is not yet lost. Those who value liberty must remain steadfast, strong in will, and unyielding.
