Jury Returns Not Guilty Verdict in Federal Criminal Civil Rights Trial

Joshua Adam Engel of Engel and Martin, LLC, represented a Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputy in a Federal criminal civil rights trial.  At the end of a two week trial the jury returned a verdict of Not Guilty on all counts.

From the Ironton Tribune:

About 30 minutes before the verdicts were read, the judge presiding over a federal trial involving three former Lawrence County corrections officers informed the court that some jurors were crying, having not reached a decision on one charge concerning one defendant.

A short time later, there were tears in the eyes of many in the courtroom who came to support those officers —Jeremy S. Hanshaw, Ronald S. Hatfield and Jason D. Mays. That’s because the jury returned not guilty verdicts on all counts for each jailer.

Engel and Martin commonly represents law enforcement officers facing criminal charges in state and federal courts throughout Ohio.

Once the jury had been dismissed, Judge Black spoke directly to the Defendants, “The jury has spoken. . .  You are free to go. Godspeed.”
